Botanical or Blooming

A botanical piece is factual and usually light; a blooming one is full of movement. Both work on canvas but do different things to a room. A third register sits between them, dark florals, roses at midnight rather than noon, which suits bedrooms better than any other flower subject. The same selection as paper prints lives in floral & botanical wall art, and adjacent subjects in nature canvas art.

Kitchens and Bedrooms
Flower subjects belong in kitchens and bedrooms more often than in living rooms, and without glass they're easier to hang where it's humid or tight. See kitchen canvas art and all canvas art.

What's the difference between botanical and blooming?
A botanical piece depicts a species factually against a light ground and reads almost as graphics, while a blooming one works more freely with colour and movement. The first suits stricter homes, the second rooms that can take abundance.

Do several flower pieces work together on canvas?
On canvas a grouping holds together more easily than on paper, since every stretched piece has the same edge depth and therefore forms an even line off the wall. Still choose subjects with related grounds, so the colours cooperate and not just the formats.

Do flower subjects work in a kitchen?
Unusually well, and canvas has a practical advantage there. Without glass there's no surface to collect steam from cooking, but don't hang the piece within splash range of the hob either, since airborne grease settles on everything over time.

What size floral canvas should I choose?
50×70 for a single statement, pairs of 30×40 for hallways, 70×100 and up above a bed. Blooms enlarge gracefully, and a flower subject rarely suffers from being given more surface.

What colours are there among the flower subjects?
Everything from almost monochrome studies in green and sepia to saturated bouquets in full colour. Choose by the room's palette rather than by the species and the piece almost always lands, whatever flower the image shows.

Are the same subjects available on paper?
Yes, the selection exists as floral & botanical wall art on acid-free paper. Paper behind glass gives a sharper surface that suits botanical studies, while canvas gives blooming subjects more depth in the colour.
